In the modern day office or business environment you have 2 choices for a network solution, a wired network or a wireless network. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, from simplicity to security, and we can help you to lay out your options.
First, we are going to tackle simplicity. In a traditional wired network, you have to spend some time running cables. This can be done the correct way in which the cables are hidden, or it can be done the incorrect way in which the cables run across the floor or ceiling in plain sight. Now compare this to the typical wireless network. You would have a wire from the main internet into the wireless router; then the connection is sent flying through the air. The winner in this category would be for wireless, it's much more simple.
Now comes the fun part, security. In a typical wireless network ... YOU ARE VALNURABLE. It doesn't matter what form of encryption you run, it can be hacked. Even if you set everything up via Mac Addresses you can still get spoofed and therefore, get hacked. There are steps you can take however to help keep a locked down wireless connection. This will be a topic for later on, but for now I will tell you the #1 way people get into a network. This is through the router when no one changes the default password (the word “password” is not acceptable). As for wired, you stand less of a chance of getting hacked, but nothing is foolproof. The only way to completely secure a computer is the unplug it and hide it. The winner in this category is wired, making it a 1-1 tie.
There are other factors as well such as distance, performance, and reliability. These topics really come down to this; if you are working with sensitive data, playing an online game, or have a lot of devices producing interference then wireless is not really an option for you. But in the end it is you decision. Whether ease of use and mobility of wireless makes your decision, or the security of the wired world is your choice you now have some more information on the subject.
