So far we have covered getting your domain name and registering your domain name, in part 1. In part 2, we went over the pros and cons of hiring someone to design your site versus doing it yourself, and some do’s and don’ts of web design.
Submitting your website with some website directories, will be our next step. You will need some links out there, but not in the form of a reciprocal links. Those will lower your PageRank, which is what Google uses to mark the influence of your website on the internet. Unless you are in a huge hurry, paid listings are not that effective, unless it is from a PR7 site or higher in which case you will pay an arm & leg for.
Now, we are going to start by listing with Google , Yahoo, and MSN. These 3 search engines make up the bulk of most searches, and if you get listed with them the others will also include you. After doing this, mark your calendar and check back in 6 months. Still not listed then submit your site with them again. DO NOT repeatedly submit because your site will be marked as spam.
There is an old saying for getting more traffic and higher search engine ratings “Content is King”. This means that the more content on your website, the more pages the search engines will find. More pages for the searches to find, the more people will have a change to see your site. Try to add a new page every day, or even every few days. If you add 2 pages to your site every week, you will have over 100 pages at the end of the year.
Follow these directions and you will be well on your way to having a very successful website. I wish you good luck along your path. If you ever find yourself in need an extra page for your site, please feel free to copy all 3 parts of this series onto your site and include my name or a link.
